Over the last few year Fews marquees have played an important part in providing marquees at a wide variety of music, dance and art festivals ranging from the World renowned Glastonbury, Big Chill, Leeds and Reading Festivals, to alternative festivals such as Bloodstock, WOMAD and Artfest. The use for our marquees has also ranged from place to place having provided beer tents at Glastonbury and performance and catering tents at Bloodstock.
After a very busy summer Festival Season this year it is noticeable that Fews Marquees have been hard at work at a number of these events.
At Glastonbury 2009, Worthy Farm, Pilton we provided two main marquees using 12m equipment. These included a 12m x 30m clearspan marquee and a 12m x 12m clearspan marquee. Which were closed off with pvc walls on three sides, leaving one side completely open for access.
The Bloodstock Open Air heavy metal festival took place at Catton Hall, Walton-on-Trent, South Derbyshire. DE12 8LN. The festival was established in 2005 to bring a wider choice of heavy metal bands to the UK and provide a venue for the best established and unsigned metal bands to perform in front of a large an enthusiastic audience of true metal heads. Bloodstock Open Air features three days of diverse international heavy metal bands across three stages, a large selection of merchandise stalls, metal karaoke, campsite and a wide selection of food, bars and other refreshments. Fews marquees contributed to the event by put up a variety of size marquees to accommodate the different facilities and areas. Including three 9m clearspan marquees varying in length from 12m to 18m, of which two of the marquees were partitioned into two sections with one section being fully lined with ivory pleated linings and swags and finished with new green carpet, while the other section was concealed for storage use. Other marquees put up for this event included two 15m x 51m clearspan marquees extended on 3m legs, which were completed sealed with pvc walls and finished at one end with blackout roofs and linings over the stage areas and a 12m x 30m extended on 3m legs.
The WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance ) Festival took place at Charlton Park, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, SN16 9DG for the fourth consecutive year in these beautiful grounds. WOMAD gives its name to the internationally established WOMAD Festival, which brings together artists from all over the globe. The central aim of the WOMAD festival is to celebrate the world's many forms of music, arts and dance. WOMAD Festivals are family-oriented, diverse and active musical events; sometimes offering as many as seven stages within the festival site. There are also participatory workshops, where the audience has a chance to meet and learn about the visiting artists and their music. The festival location in each country is as important to its atmosphere as the music and dance that it presents. WOMAD work with many different visual artists to create distinctive decorated spaces at each festival site. Since the first festival in the UK in 1982, WOMAD has held more than 160 festivals, creating events all over the world and presenting more than one thousand artists at their festivals, bringing the expression of more than 100 different countries to a live audience of over one million people. This year Fews marquees assisted this event by putting up a variety sized marquees using 9m, 12m and 15m equipment. All the marquees were provided with a solid board floor and finished with either green or blue carpet. Giving relief to the muddy areas that our wet summer has brought upon us.
Artsfest takes place annually in Birmingham and is the UK’s biggest free and most vibrant cultural festival, displaying music, comedy, drama and art for all tastes. A wealth of city centre locations were incorporated into the festival site with indoor venues opening their doors to the public and outdoor stages in the premier city spaces of Centenary Square, Chamberlain Square, Victoria Square, City Centre Gardens, Broad Street, Brindleyplace, Cambridge Street and The Jewellery Quarter. Our marquees were displayed in areas included Centenary Square where a 15m x 30m clearspan open sided marquee was used for the event which was completed with a wooden board floor and orange carpet. As the marquee was located on the bricked area of the square it needed to be weighted; this was achieve through the use of concrete weights and tonne weight ballast bags. City centre Gardens was another site used where a 15m x 9m clearspan open sided marquee was put up on the grassland allowing it to be secured with stakes. This year has been proven to be another successful event with more than 270,000 people filling venues across Birmingham over the weekend period.
Fews Marquees have shown throughout the year no matter the location or the purpose of the marquee the same high quality standards that customers have to expect are adhered to, ensuring happy customers and equally happy festival goers.
