Marquees and temporary structures helping to support the UK film industry

The UK is experiencing a boom in TV & Film production with streaming companies such as Netflix and Amazon leading the way with many high-end productions. Studios across the country are investing heavily in more sound stages, production studios and ancillary resources to meet the demand created by the surge in consumer demand throughout the Covid pandemic.

As part of this investment, temporary sound stages and associated structures are also heavily in demand at studios and on location given their relatively low cost and immediate availability.

Marquees and temporary structures are increasingly being used to provide support to new productions, with temporary sound stages able to mimic the capabilities of their permanent counterparts with span, height, vehicular access and load bearing capabilities.

Other requirements such as workshops, dressing rooms, catering, green rooms and storage facilities can easily be met using marquees and temporary structures with a variety of heating, floor and lighting options.

Fews can offer all of these options and they make marquees and temporary buildings a very attractive, low cost and immediate solution.

In addition, Fews have over the years adopted a number of green initiatives including installing biomass, solar panels and recycling throughout the business. Currently we are seeking accreditation with BAFTA’s offsetting scheme ALBERT.

Here are some options we offer to complement our marquees and structures:

Heating:
Heating units can be floor standing, wall mounted or suspended from ceilings. Full heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are readily available to suit most structures.

Lighting:
Options here include efficient automated systems to reduce carbon footprint, floodlighting, personal lighting for dressing areas and standard room lighting.

Flooring:

Depending on requirement flooring types can vary from simple boards to deck-level cassette flooring with carpets or commercial-grade non-slip vinyl flooring.

Access Doors:
These range from single lockable personnel doors to simple sliding doors, onto large roller shutter doors and even elephant doors, all of which can be fitted into any structure.

Insulation:
For storage structures there are insulated and non-insulated wall types of varied thicknesses. Roofs can be single PVC or thermo, where an inflated double skin provides insulation and eliminates condensation.

Soundproofing:
Fews can provide various levels of sound-proofing through insulated walls up to -50dB. This solution is not available on all structure types.
