Navigating Weddings Through Covid-19

As the 2020 event season approached, the wedding team here at Fews Marquees were getting set for a ‘Wedding Season to remember’. I hadn’t quite anticipated that it would be for all of the wrong reasons.

On a ‘normal’ day to day basis, I would take enquiries, complete site visits, liaise with suppliers and heading to site to check in before your big day. As I’m sure you can imagine, this day to day routine has changed quite dramatically over the last couple of months.

In the office we have adapted and changed the way we function. We have been working alongside the NHS, supermarkets and businesses, providing temporary structures to support the current crisis. This was most certainly not the type of work we were expecting or hoping to be doing.

With a ‘Plan B’ now in place for our customers, we are looking forward to getting back to normal and watching our couples get to the ‘finish line’, either later this year or in 2021.

We have had quite a lot of customers seek advice from us with regards to postponing their weddings. In all honesty, no one knows what to expect or even when the industry will be back up and running. For those getting married towards the end of 2020 and debating whether to postpone their event, I think it’s really important to take your time with these decisions. Weigh up all of the pros and cons, whilst bearing in mind that there is a big difference in ‘can it happen’ and ‘will it be the wedding we want’.

In what would usually be a busy time, we have had the opportunity to sit back and look at new products we would like to offer. We have had great fun scouring through Instagram & Pinterest, trying to predict where the trends are going to take us! We have fallen in love with the ‘rustic’ theme – clear roofs and windows, Edison lights, festoon lighting, wooden cross back chairs and rustic trestle tables are now something that we stock and would be delighted to provide for you.

Should government guidelines allow, we are now planning on having our Fews Showcase in October, it would be great to see as many of you as possible, and for some, putting names to faces! More details will be announced in the coming months.
